Amazingly enough when I connected the upstairs computer to the router, and set up the TCP/IP protocols in Networking, it connected right away. Turns out all I had to do was reset the router - it has a reset button that is recessed and needs to be poked with something - I used a matchstick. That was it. -g-

Now I am working on tweaking the computers to speed them up. Turns out there is a parameter in the registry (for Win98) that needs to be changed to maximize data transmission for broadband, and so far I have changed it on two of the computers and more than doubled the data transfer speed.

It is kind of funny that women seem to have a knack for this. I think it's part of the nesting instinct. I am always removing temp files and cookies and other detritus from the computer - it's sort of like cleaning house. Getting rid of broken shortcuts and unnecessary dlls and so forth. The guys are all into games but when they get tired of a game they never take it off the computer, so every so often I have to get in there and give the computers a good spring cleaning. -g- Including vacuuming inside the computer and vacuuming off the keyboard.

I am not a very good housekeeper but when I do clean house I am thorough. I am the type who vacuums the refrigerator coils and pulls off the top of the stove to clean under the burners. But only a couple of times a year. The rest of the year there are dust bunnies everywhere.
