Cluster bombs are a particularly insidious destructive device, and we used them to bomb a marketplace at its busiest time.

Thats news to me. Do you have a link? My understanding is that the main thing we did to Belgrade was to short out the electricity generation capacity. We didn't even blow it up just rendered it ineffective. I do know that a train carrying refuges was taken out by our aircraft but that was a mistake and I don't think they used cluster bombs on it.

Cluster bombs are actually highly effective and I would never think of giving up that kind of military ordnance. Of course, I'm biased since I was in the military and know the value of having that kind of firepower at one's disposal.

That's war, Charley.

It's the ugly and brutal reality of war that people get killed. We bombed German and Japanese cities indescriminately during WWII. We fire bombed civilian targets in Tokyo and many other Japanese cities in order to destroy the decentralized "cottage shop" industries that were the heart of Japanese war production.

Hitler's luftwaffe utterly destroyed Coventry (which Churchill had foreknowledge of through Ultra, but decided not to evacuate in order to protect the code-breaking device), targeted London with V-1 and V-2, killing thousands of people and the allies called that a war crime. But we bombed Dresden and Hamburg strictly to target the civilian population and we called that justifiable.

It just all depends on your perception of "innocent civilian" and the victor gets to define that.

At least we're not talking about events such Palestininans killing their own children in order to create "PR events" where they can blame the Israelis.

Regards,

Ron
