This box took a lot of my good humor out of me, and I'm really not pleased with it. The bulk of people who have tried to help are convinced that I am an idiot with regards to computers, I am certain. The fact is, they just just do not understand how complex this problem is. I'm certain most W2K users wouldn't know a Fatal Exception from an ugly shade of wallpaper. At least it's an ugly shade now. I even considered taking a two-day W2K course in order to be more informed about the issues surrounding the OS. That's when the grey-matter finally kicked in; it's just not worth the effort. This machine does not put money in my pocket; therefore, it is expendable. QED. As you mentioned, with everything going on around here the box is no comfort. As usual, I'm way behind with regard to taxes and that annoys me more than anything. Seems each time I block aside time for that I end up wasting the time on a Fatal Exception. One fellow mentioned creating an Emergency Diskette. That diskette may as well be a rectangular frisbee for as much use as it has been. Nice idea, but this machine's crashes go far beyond stuff like that....found that out during these past four crashes. The "normal" fix appears to be to go into safe mode, get into DOS, then discard the old System and re-name the alternate system. Then, while still in safe mode, go to microsoft.com and download new mouse drivers (as inevitably they get corrupted during the Fatal Exception). One neat thing I learned, I can get to microsoft.com without even typing in http://www. Try it. Saves me at least three to five seconds each time. Real lifesaver. Knocks down the average repair time from an hour to 59 minutes and 55 seconds. Then Tradestation loves getting shut down suddenly, so tack on another 20 minutes plus for TS to come back up and re-create any work that was in process but was unsaved and do this sometimes three times a day....like I did Wednesday. It's a real peach of a deal. Yeah, this weekend was going to be my Northern Spring debut on the course but naturally it's raining. On the bright side, maybe I can get taxes done. Unless you are a Duke, MD or Michigan fan root for 'Zona. I picked them first in a pool a few weeks back. I had a chance to get MD as well but thought they were already gone and took Oak instead. Costly error, I would have won the pool already if I had both teams. But even if 'Zona makes it to Monday I have a lock. Oh, in another pool it would be nice if Maryland covers, so help me out with rooting for that as well. Not much hope there though, as Duke has covered every game but one so far. On the other hand MD has been playing Duke tough all season, so perhaps the "Saints may preserve us". Have a good weekend.
