Agree , you can be a much better president than George W. Bush.

And unfortunately, too many Americans and US media have already demonized China and Chinese as "mongsters" and "sub-human".

This clash with China is only a start.

My prediction is that things going the way they are going in 10 - 20 years time there will be a major showdown between US and China. And by then China is not any more a sleepy agricultural backwater, but an economical giant with a strong army and plenty of allies.

So even if we don´t care too much about the US (too late now, we´ve seen their overweight ladies), but what is Europe going to do?

Unfortunately it is a historical inevitability that we euros stand with our flag waving, gun toting bully cousin with a penchant for impressive chest beating. After all they saved our butt twice last century. Possible German dissent vote notwithstanding. Also the US "culture" is much closer to us, as horrendous thought as that may be.

Meanwhile, lets hope that those John Wayne Wannabees in the congress will be able to control their banana republic - style emotionality and we can get on with relationship building, trade and increasing prosperity for all.

This is just silly. Chinese officials communicated to US officials that they would not release our crew and plane long before any public comment was made by the President. The Chinese aren't keeping our crew because the President did not mention their pilot in his public statement nor because we are "arrogant." They also know that we aren't going to stop surveillance. I don't know what they think they are going to gain, but they've made a grave blunder. If they don't release the crew we will completely embargo US trade with China.

The real reason they are keeping the crew is so they can keep the plane, IMO.
