How do you know they think that?

Loud and clear from the fishy response you get. It's a real no-brainer.

Some of them just give you the once-over and don't even reply. Typical is you run into someone new at the coffee pot. "Good morning. How're you doing?", for which you are treated to that smile/grimace "Just fine", turn up snoot, end of conversation. It's a real "Buzz off, Pal."

It's a pleasant surprise when you run into someone real. I haven't figured out yet whether some of these people are just socially inept, but one often feels like they are coming from some freaky zone that you don't want any part of.

This funny attitude seems to diminish with women who are 40+. At that point they are generally quite pleased to interact in a genial manner.

My wife and I don't have kids which makes us weird around here. My wife can't have children but she is thought of as normal.

Now me. If children are outside I go in. One kid falling and crying 200 yards from me gives me the heebies. Everyone is so quick to lay blame. I wouldn't mind letting kids use my 5 acres if it wasn't for the liability.
