Religious organizations were largely responsible for educating poor children in American. And catholic schools have done an excellent job teaching children for decades.

There is quite a bit of difference between religious schools today, and the ones you highlight from hundreds of years ago. Your "recent checkered past" is not recent at all.

Keeping children locked in cycles of ignorance is the equivalent of modern day slavery. And any Democrat politician still defending the NEA after reading this recent report, should be ashamed of him/herself.

They've had their chance, and it's time for them to go and let the adults get down to business and do something concrete for the lost children.

Dear dale >>> After all, it was Catholic priests who gathered up blankets from small pox victims to donate to the native Americans in an attempt by the British government to eradicate the heathens.

I'd say you are the first person I ever heard that lie about catholic priests from. From all you posts I'd suggest that understanding will always be just out of your grasp as you seem to hold many beliefs that are simply stated just screwed up.

I have no doubt that that particular lie is documented agains jews, catholics, mormons, and all 79 flavors of whatever other christian religions. The Chinese, the Irish, the Germans and of course the Nazis. I wonder what protected whoever it was that collected all those blankets. Back then all were literate and educated on transmission vector of all diseases. Of course it is also documented that back then bears did not shit in the woods. Bear only did their business on vacant liberal minds of the times.

Catholic priests colluded with the English government?

You're making this up as you go along, right?

Dale, <more currently are waging a campaign to get Creationism taught in schools>

Quite surprisingly, my niece (who goes to a Catholic High School) was over at my house last night - telling me they were debating whether Homo Sapien Sapien evolved in China or Africa. I was quite shocked, as were her grandparents. Apparently they are teaching them evolution and creationism, and letting them make up their own mind. I have no problem with that.
