Mark, i've been using Norton speed disk to defrag for a long time. I only went back to the built in when I began getting that locked-by-a-disk-utility message and had to defrag in Safe Mode. You were right, it was an ambitious undertaking on which I gave up. Message 15688798 Do you think expertcity could reinstall ME with me? I guess I could put the idea into the problem box and see who responds. <<<if your disk locking dilemma does not get resolved by the winme reinstall, i recommend re-running ndd in DOS (making sure to select the faster 'normal' mode this time), then following through with running norton speed disk, not windoze defrag.>>> Do you think I should do it again this way, even though i've been trying speed disk repeatedly?
