It's over for AMD? They can't make enough chips to supply demand...

really good spin; first time i ever heard that it's over for a company because they are selling all they can produce and going out for more production. (if they couldn't produce because of a problem that would be different but i don't think that's the case here). umc has a 6 lm .13u process. can amd use it to produce really inexpensive durons? i am sure that'd be the downfall of amd :-)
also the question here is what demand ? amd can never supply the whole pc demand. the only problem for amd is if they can't sell all they can produce.

Taipei, May 2 (Bloomberg) -- United Microelectronics Corp., the second-largest chipmaker on a contract basis, said it will make processors for Advanced Micro Devices Inc., which has more orders than it is able to meet with its own chip factories, the CTech Web site reported, citing UMC President Peter Chang

Yah right. AMD has so many orders they have to cut their prices by nearly 50%. If anything this is almost certainly to offload the K6-2s. You don't just take a design like Athlon which is now running on the harry edge and ship it off to an ASIC foundry. Too much work involved porting to a new process.

Clearly, AMD is having severe yield problems.

They have a brand new Fab in Dregsden - and can't produce enough CPUS - when fab equipment is cheap and instantly available?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....
