Does the sign say 12 or less ITEMS, or 12 or less ENTRIES ON THE TAPE?

An item is an item. (unless you're in high school. then an Item is actually two items. But those can't be bought in a supermarket)

Even if it's 6 yogurts (no wonder you can't think straight if you buy all those yougurts!) each one has to be scanned and bagged. That's what takes the time. Not printing the receipt.

Depends on whether your PMS is currently active...

If it is, go in whatever line you damn well please....just don't hurt anybody too badly.....

If it isn't, go in the regular line and read the Weekly World News with everybody else. If the line is long, you can read Redbook too....

I tend to agree with those who say it is number of items scanned. Obviously a bunch of grapes does not count as 172 items. A 6-pack of beer is an item. 6 things, even if they are "6 for a dollar" is still 6 things. There is no obligation to buy 6 anyway - at most you will lose a penny buying just one.

On the 10 items or less express line...

The expression 2 for 1 is short for "Two items for the price of one". It counts as two items.

However, any package of merchandise items, such as a six-pack of beer, is one item.

Why did they not allow cattle to graze in marijuana fields? Because the steaks were too high.
