<I am still trying to figure out why the typical Ebay customer is so polite compared to retail customers in general. >

Hi Glenn. Here's one theory.

My sister worked at a jewelry store for a while and hated it? Why? Because some customers treated her poorly. That probably happens in a lot of retail establishments, but i wonder if it might be more prevalent with jewelry? The attitude being "i can afford this stuff and you are just a retail clerk." The class difference is perhaps more delineated in that relationship.

With ebay on the other hand, buyers and sellers are equal partners. Sellers are essentially small business entrepreneurs or buyers themselves who just have something to sell. Plus the whole feedback system helps to check everyone's behavior, I'm sure.

Your experience says a lot about why so many folks love Ebay !

Rob

glenn, did you know this?

>>Last year Amazon.com annoyed surfers when it was discovered to be using a dynamic pricing system it had failed to publicize - the e-tailer used the system to make regular customers pay more than first-time users of the site. ® <<
