I do appreciate your take, as someone with experience in these matters. I suspect you are right, all things considered, but I am still chewing on it. I just dislike the heavy- handed reaction that some people have.....

It's my understanding that the invitation is open to anyone in the department who wants to come. In fact, with your connections, you could probably find a friend with an invitation who would take you along some day so you could see for yourself what the sessions were like and how dangerous they might or might not be. If you decide to do that, report back and let us know how it went.

Offices can get really chewed up by a proliferation of EEO or union complaints whether or not they are valid.

I can agree that this is true. When I was in the national guard I worked with civilians on my anual training. A manager I knew at that location (he was also in my national guard unit) had to deal with union and EEO complaints all the time. (He also had to deal with a lot of tardiness, and absenteeism)
