Ron: I am a Californian, and I disagree. Maybe I'm part of the supposed 40% (a statistic I would challenge greatly), but I'm convinced that us Dems don't need to be careful one bit... Bush has made more environmental blunders than big oil itself. I'm not convinced nuclear energy is cheaper than wind turbines, and it's certainly more expensive than geothermal. The additional costs to secure all that weapons grade plutonium, transfer it safely, ensure safety at the plant, build a safe waste repository, etc... it's just way too high. I know nuclear obviously produces a lot of energy, but I would be interested in seeing exact, bipartisan/independent numbers. Regardless of numbers though, I would be against it... the risks of terrorism, natural disaster, accidents, etc are way too high for what little is gained.

California may swing back to the Party of Reagan after this is all said and done.

The tree huggers lose to simple economics.
