AMAT branding AMAT wants "Information for everyone" to become as well known as...

What a dumb idea! People who need to know, already know AMAT well enough do not need CNBC to tell them about it. Advertising should be addressed to your consumers or solve a specific problem. Intel managed to get people to buy PCs based on its chips. Does AMAT expect people to run around asking "were chips in this made using AMAT's CVD or some other process was used to make them"?

The ads are not targeted to you or I, the average Joe. They are targeting semis and being selective in where they run the ads, only running them on CNN and FoxNews at this point. I think this ad campaign is something similar in its goals to the EPIC design center, something no other equipment manufacturer has. They want to attempt to make the fab manager believe, rightly or wrongly, that there is not other choice than AMAT. If they can succeed in this, even partly, $30M is cheap in garnering new orders in the coming years.
