Atkins has been very successful promoting the sales of books...I'm not sure we can say its successful otherwise... the current popularity of high-protein diets such as Atkins's diet is based primarily on the misconception that carbohydrates alone induce weight gain. Claims made by promoters of the high protein diets are based on unpublished research or studies that are not peer reviewed or controlled.
