what is your problem with a moderated thread?

Nothing as long as you accept, for example, the premise that a movie theater, having accepted a moviegoer's paid admission, should then be allowed to say that you can't watch this particular movie because I don't like you.

We here on SI have paid to be here, and many of us paid before there was such a thing as a moderated thread, and when the only requirement to post anything anywhere was adherence to the TOU. Exclusion is a recent phenomenon which is not, IMO, an attractive addition to this community.

The idea of a moderated thread is to exclude (by force) those people who do not agree with you. This is a basic tenet of Nazism. Putting people in cattle cars an even a couple of boats if I recall was their basic M.O. While it is a stretch to say exclusion equates to extermination, even the Nazi's had to start somewhere. I would not post here or anywhere that I felt I was truly unwelcome. If I had been asked to leave I would have. I'm here to discuss what I believe and bounce that off what others believe. Sometimes it gets rough and some people want to lash out and attack people, then run away to the shelter of a moderated thread. I think you will find very few people who are just, what we call Shit disturbers, most people, treated with respect will respond in kind. But if your going to pick a fight, don't run and hide behind Solon's skirt.

Greg, what is your problem with a moderated thread? What's scary about the moderator choosing to exclude people who demonstrably and publicly do not share the thread ethos...?

I've seen several people with similar opinions about moderated threads but I've never really understood them. I can understand not wanting to be part of the thread if you can be moderated off, but if you don't like the policies then just find a different thread that you do like. When I was temporaily suspended from the LWP, I found the boxing ring and never went back to the LWP.
