JD, one way liberals differ from conservatives.

Liberals want to raise the price of gasoline in order to encourage more people to ride mass transit or buy better MPG vehicles.

Conservatives want to give a tax incentive to anyone willing to purchase a car which gets high gas mileage.

For one group the method is negative punishment, for the other, it's positive reinforcement.

Which is more likely to work?

My point went way over your head, the idea of creating mass transportation systems that are cheap and efficient is good for several reasons. The question is how to fund them. The logical and best solution like all other countries except the US do, is to use gasoline taxes, thus gas prices are quite a bit higher in other countries. But screw all that we can run rampant and use 80% of the oil produced in the world until we suck it all up in 100 or years and then what?
