And Kobe without Shaq will be another Vince Carter. Great talent, won't carry a team. A Larry Bird or Magic make players around them better. Kobe doesn't.

He's also pretty young. You don't think he has the chance to carry a team in they way that Jordan did? I mean, Jordan's teammates hated him too. I think Kobe's problem in LA has been that he isn't the #1 star, which is hard for him. If he was considered The Guy, he's be more than willing to pass a lot more. Kobe wants one thing--to be the greatest player in the game. If that means being part magic, part michael, he'll do his best to find a way.

The really sad thing about Kobe is that he seems less driven by the love of the game than any of the other greats. He seems basically driven by a need to be considered the best, to be like mike. No internal engine...

cId,

<< I would probably rule it out. First, with Jordon, even if he'd had a better supporting cast early on, he'd have had the competition of the Kareem/Magic Lakers, the Bird/McKale/Parish Celtics, and the Pistons at their peak. Jordon's Bull benefited from the lessened competition in the 90's. >>

Very good analyses and I agree, even though Michael was one of the greats.

<< A Larry Bird or Magic make players around them better. Kobe doesn't. >>

Agreed also on Bird and Magic. I haven't seen enough Kobe to comment.

Again, after watching Iverson just get better and better. I still have a few misgivings. I cheered the draft choice, but hoped he could complement Stachouse. He couldn't. What he has done is lifted a team that thrives, when healthy, on him putting the ball in the air, whether he hits it or not.

Kareem? Ya mean Lew?

<< record is comparable to Russell's >>

Comporable.

<< was the all-time leading scorer in the NBA >>

Was? Before him was Wilt and Elgin, and after was Michael. Don't think he is in all time top 10 is he?

My all time, all around still Elgin, and best to watch was Hondo.
