Gopher Broke, Re : "they are not exactly going to compete with AMDs .13 A4s"

When is the earliest production .13 A4 product scheduled to come out ? Is it Barton in Q2 02 or is there one scheduled prior to that ?

Thanks.
Maui.

Re: "This is Intel's brand new .13 process and they are not ashamed of these launch speeds? Weren't we expecting them to start at at least 1 GHz? "

Intel is launching these speeds to offer a SPECTRUM of price points and performance for their Mobile Customers.

Do you think EVERYBODY wants - or can AFFORD - a 1 or 1.13 GHz notebook ?

Of course not !!!

Re: "..they are not exactly going to compete with AMDs .13 A4s unless their clock speed can scale much higher. "

Uh... Intel's 0.13 micron Tualatins can't compete with 0.13 micron AThWipers --because THERE ARE NO 0.13 micron ATHWIPERS !!!

My guess is that Intel's 0.13 micron Pentium 4 (Northwood) may scale better than anything AMD will have to offer in the next year or so.

Gopher, <This is Intel's brand new .13 process and they are not ashamed of these launch speeds?>

Why should they? After a two-month delay, Intel's 0.18u Coppermine launched at speeds from 500 MHz to 733 MHz, despite the fact that the fastest 0.25u Pentium III was running at 600 MHz at the time. Now Coppermine is at 1.0 GHz.

Judging from this alone, Intel was able to improve the top speed of Coppermine by 36% over the course of its lifetime. It's possible that if Intel really wants to, they can get similar increases with Tualatin.
