At one time dueling was considered not only acceptable, not only a right, but an obligation.

Then it became a crime.

For a while people still fought duels. But fewer and fewer.

Now there are no duels fought per se, and nobody thinks anything of it.

Customs change. Civilization survives.

You know very well that in a society where abortion was considered murder--all the abortions would be done illegally underground, or by oneself--not by "doctors."
Ah, yes. Exactly the situation that existed before Roe v. Wade. The anti-abortionists forget that it really isn't true that abortions weren't done before that decision. They were- -and a lot more women died as a result of them.
Although I suppose that many of them think that that is as it should be. If you're going to "commit murder" by having an abortion, then you deserve to die.

And I think that the above is an effective counter to Chris's dueling analogy.
