richard,

It has nothing to do with hindsight. Under Carl's "dead, dead, dead" advice, you would have made zero money on Rambus (or a tiny bit the one or two times he said to buy). As Scumbria knows, the $1000 prediction was a joke (we were playing "Quien es mas macho?"), and you would've made much more money following a strategy of capital preservation on RMBS. The moves up were certainly telegraphed strongly, and up until this year, RMBS moved in very big, and reasonably sustained, up and down swings.

Carl is too emotional about the stock. He hates it. As I told him before, don't love 'em, but don't hate 'em either. We're here to make money.

Richard,

According to Anand's benchmarks, i850 is about 25% faster than i845/PC133. This difference will increase dramatically as the P4 approaches 2GHz, because the SDRAM bus will saturate on the i845, causing a large increase in latency.

Looks like RDRAM will win the bulk of the PC desktop market next year. (BTW I predicted the crossover at 2GHz in a post to you one year ago):

I can see a case where DRDRAM becomes an important technology for 2GHz+ CPUs. For now, SDRAM provides enough bandwidth, better latency, and a much lower cost.
