What are the tax rates in the two states? I think you will find the majority of the differential is because of state taxes...

Ted Re..It has to be the gas companies taking advantage, or a new tax surcharge on gas in CA. Otherwise, it makes no sense.

Or it could simply be that CA, because of pollution, requires a strict formulation. It was in the news lately that CA was suing the EPA and GW to drop the ethanol requirements, because it was too expensive. And of course, Gw being the nice accommodating guy that he is said no.

Scott, what surprised me on my recent trip to LA is that gas is about $.20-.30 more expensive in CA than WA even though most gas is refined in CA.

When I drove down to Miami a few years ago for a football game we decided not to stop in GA and get gas because we still had enough not to worry. We needed to stop by the time we hit the first station in FL. It was $.50 more expensive per gallon then gas back in GA. The % difference was also big because gas was cheaper then and GA has cheap gas. I don't remember the exact prices but it was under 80 cents in GA. Most stations in FL where not as expensive (I wouldn't be surprised if we loaded up at the most expensive gas station for 500 miles in any direction.), but it was easily at least $.20 or $.30 more in FL. (over 30% more).
