What is CDMA2000's worldwide market share currently compared with WCDMA's? Well it looks like its about 400k subs to zero in favor of CDMA2000.

Why do so many more operators choose WCDMA over CDMA2000, even excluding Europe?
Because they have been a sold a bag of B.S.. Let's see what actually gets installed and what actually works.

Puck,

<< Ericsson ... is standards neutral from a royalty standpoint >>

I think that if you drill down on that, you will find that Ericsson is not royalty neutral.

Amongst GSM providers their essential IP in WCDMA is considered to be dominant and they will benefit from royalties and cross licensing more than most.

Never forget that it was the Ericsson/DoCoMo proposal submission for WCDMA that was the one accepted and it provided initial framework for what has evolved.

Nokia was quick to hop on the bandwagon but I have never been convinced that their IP position was all that strong or all that essential.

When the ITU forced the issue and made their mandate that Qualcomm and Ericsson settle their differences or forever forgo CDMA, it was not a mandate to Qualcomm, Ericsson AND Nokia.

>> What is CDMA2000's worldwide market share currently compared with WCDMA's?<<

About 400,000 cdma2000 1X users versus 4,500 DoCoMo FOMA trial users and zero users on the Isle of Mann.
SK Telecom alone has 370K total 1X subs adding 170K in June, up from 100K net adds in May & targets 1.9 1X subs by end of 2001.

There are currently cdma2000 10-12 handset models available on the market, with 32 models expected by the end of 2001 versus two for the NTT DoCoMo trial network.

Cdma 2000 users can use their phones in IS-95 A/B areas where cdma 2000 has not yet been built out.. FOMA users can take their single mode W-CDMA phones and roam where? The Isle of Mann?

By the end of the year we may see more than 2 million CDMA 2000 users versus 0 W-CDMA users in Europe.
