The difference is that while government programs fail, faith-based programs are notable for their success.

Terry, I don't agree with the "faith based initiative" either, but for a slightly different reason.

As churches receive funding directly from the federal government, they will be encouraged to promote the notion that high taxes are a good and noble thing to support, because, it means money toward their cause. How difficult will it then be to limit taxes, when we have thousands of religious leaders calling on their constituents to vote down tax limitation measures?

Additionally, lean operating faith based programs currently doing everything they can to limit waste, and provide value, will become more bureaucratic and disconnected from their purpose.

The idea is a good one, but I fear 20 or 30 years from now, we will have created a larger problem than the one we're trying to solve.

A better approach to me would be to increase the tax deduction for charitable contributions organizations and individuals can take, while simultaneously scaling back the government funded programs.
