Let's be generous and attribute it all to SOI. 800MHz on .18 micron copper/SOI is simply pathetic. The point remains. You base your hopes on SOI and it hasn't produced a single high performance product. None, zip, nada and that isn't going to change no matter how many times you click your ruby slippers together. You say that the combination of going from 5 to 7 pipeline stages, as well as going to SOI, allowed the G4 to go from 450MHz to 800MHz, right? That's a 78% increase. Intel was able to get 2x increase by moving from 10 pipeline stages in the Pentium III (with a maximum frequency of 1GHz) to 20 pipeline stages in the Pentium 4 (with a maximum of 2GHz), and using the exact same process. Of course, you would have made your point without exaggerating, but I guess old habits die hard, right? wanna_bmw
