Tower Semiconductor has failed to obtain enough money from investors to build their new $1.5B fab. They are looking to raise another $150m over the next three years, through the sale of debentures.

That alone speaks volumes about the riskiness of building a fab in today's environment, where semiconductor overcapacity is rampant. Both TSMC and UMC's utilization rate is currently below 50% - does the world really need yet another multi-billion dollar fab?

AB - LAPTOP magazine Sept edition - good article about memory devices and charts showing predicted growth. All looks fantastic if nly we are not about to enter another Great Depression.
