AMD year ago EPS: $2.36
AMD estimated EPS for this year, average: $0.36
85% decrease

$2.36 - $0.36 = $2
X NB of shares ------> $630M

INTC year ago EPS: $1.65
INTC estimated EPS for this year, average: $0.55
67% decrease

$1.65 - $0.55 = $1.10
X NB shares -----------> $7400M

Intel leave 11.75 time more on the table than AMD

wanna bmw:

"INTC estimated EPS for this year, average: $0.55"

Be careful attaching too much weight to this base...Could be caving in while you type! (Remember...declining margins, no $3 billion in investment income, rising goodwill, but alas a declining tax rate!!!)

W:That says a lot for AMD's execution, too.

You mean by virtue of the fact that the company one tenth the size of the other was able to prevent itself from being "road kill" in the face of a hostile environment and overwhelming odds?

Yeah, most expected a big red number there...

wbmw,

don't count your chicken yet before they hatch. The count of the chicken that did hatch this year is:
AMD: $.42
INTC: $.25 excluding acquisition charges or $.10 including them.

Wanna_bmw:

When comparing AMD to Intel, you need to use GAAP to compare apples to apples. Intel has earned only $0.10 this year so far and you should take into account that they may earn no more this year either or possibly actually lose some in the next two quarters. Estimates for Intel using GAAP average $0.10 this year. Using GAAP last year, Intel earned $1.51. That means they had a 93% decline this year.

Yeah, AMD did better than Intel when you compare apples to apples all around in a lower decline from and higher per share earnings last year, so far this year and the estimates for the rest. When comparing companies, you must use GAAP as Pro Forma doesn't exist for most of them and means different things for different companies even when they both use it.

But of course you knew that, didn't you? You just do not want to use them when they go against your arguments.

Pete
