eco, "we'll see this release answered with a faster performing AMD part."

It is not going to happen. Due to some Athlon platform
deficiencies, and because of _higher_ IPC of Athlons,
the whole AMD platform performance grows slower with
core frequency than P4 systems. Once behind, Athlon
will fall further and further behind. Living example:
multimedia and Quake gaming. Same will happen to
office productivity eventually, since currently they
are at parity. AMD needs to understand this, and do
something - FSB to 166MHz, dual DDR, whatever.
Unfortunately, they didn't get it first time, and
I'm afraid the things will remain the same.
Simply faster core will not solve
the performance issue.

- Ali

Your gloating was unwarranted for such a paltry win after several straight quarters of being behind in most benchmarks.

Slight correction here, behind on benchmarks that avoid using P4 optimizations. AMD must rely on old benchmarks to stay close.

If previous trends are indicative, we'll see this release answered with a faster performing AMD part. This should happen before the 2GHz P4 is out in volume, that is, if the 2GHz part is ever out in volume. I have to wonder how many 2 GHz parts will be pulled because of the throttling issue.

Ooooouu those grapes sure are sour!!

eCo, Re: "Your gloating was unwarranted for such a paltry win after several straight quarters of being behind in most benchmarks."

I see your disappointment has left you confused. That was not me gloating in the previous post... that was a quote I grabbed from a review. Even previously pro-AMD web pages have admitted the fact that the 2.0GHz Pentium 4 has managed to definitively beat the Athlon. Why can't you?
