d.a., I've been using IE6 for several months now and as far as I remember I did not remove the prior version of IE before installing IE6. Installation of IE6 went smoothly.

I have Win98SE.

Some versions of IE5 do not include uninstall instructions and can not be rolled back to. This is apparently your situation. IE 6 will probably fix you up but in the future it's not a good idea to delete files unless you know they will not adversely effect you in the future. I would leave whatever you deleted in the recycle bin until you're sure everything with IE6 is going smoothly. If for any reason you have to remove IE6 you can then restore what you deleted.
