All the other world leaders managed to speak from the capitals of their countries. Bush looked like a weenie to me. That's my point and I'm sticking with it.

Perhaps you have a point. After all, didn't someone say "it takes a weenie to know one".

I don't need to have done anything. I have an opinion and a vote for whoever I think has the best character to lead. Just like you. That's all I need. If you need more, I couldn't care less.

Yes you did have a vote. Hopefully you took full advantage of that. Now that you have, it is time to shut up and accept that the other guy won, your candidate lost. We rally around our Presidents once the country has spoken.

Having seen Gore's military record I can only laugh at your suggestion of his ability to lead. We as a nation are very fortunate to have the guy we have whether you like it or not.

Your suggestion of his cowardice is laughable as well. If you had any practical understanding of the situation you might understand the importance of protecting our leaders until we understood the threat. I would have even wanted it for Clinton (gag). To have lost our President on top of what happened today would have been an even greater devastation on the American people.

Bush running to Nebraska was not a pretty picture.

All the other world leaders managed to speak from the capitals of their countries. Bush looked like a weenie to me. That's my point and I'm sticking with it.

None of the other world leaders had to deal with an attack that day on their capital cities let alone the headquarters of their military. No other leader this Tuesday had to deal with an unprecedented attack on their country.

Given the chaos and lack of information during the day, its not surprising at all that they moved key leadership personnel, especially the head of state - your president - out of harms way. As others have said, protecting the function of government is critical in a national emergency and anything less than instant action to protect the function of government would be a mistake.

In the chaos that developed from Tuesday morning, a wide range of threats must have been considered possible if not likely, and I doubt that security personnel took more than a few seconds to decide to launch well rehearsed, prepared plans for such occasions.

I'm sure the professionals that make up and execute these plans don't consider Bush a weanie. But yes, you are entitled to your opinion, just as others are entitled to judge you by the opinions you put forth.

Closing this off, the more important issue is what does US, and indeed world, leadership do going forward.

You're way off base. The President is the Commander and it is his responsibility to not contribute to the uncertainty of the situation by acting foolishly.
At the time he went to wherever he went, I doubt if anyone knew exactly what the hell was going on, and he had a responsibility to stay safe in order to carry out his duties. When the situation was under some semblance of control, (diverting flights, canceling flights, etc etc) he did what was the right thing, and that was to return to D.C.

Suppose this was something that was going to happen all day long? Would you have preferred he be in the White House with a 747 bearing down on him? What good would that have done the country or the world?

Is it possible that you are allowing your dislike for Pres. Bush to cloud your perspective on the situation?
