I would imagine the worst thing Americans and the world at large might do is to get a better understanding of their religion.
I have a feeling if we do, we're all going to be so freaked out, that we'll all do something irrational.
IMO the way things are, we just look at them as just another religion and by our way of thinking.."to each their own". Not really that serious about that, but to a certain extent I am. There's always a danger that this could turn into a holy war, (from our side) and who needs that?
Just take care of the lunatics, and I think the rest of it will take care of itself.

Did not, just by glancing through, find any reference to
the superior ones and the not superior, slavelabor, segregation and lack of civil rights??

Not to forget sucessfull genocide of almost total populations,
original or neighboring??

Btw, what religion are you talking about??

Buddism??

Yes, very confusing. Not that other major religions have any mystical non-answers, now, do they?

I agree that it will be folly to take a scholarly approach to understand Islamic fundamentalism; it defies comprehension with its intellectual laziness and lack of rigor in reason.

Suffice it to say that in many Islamic countries, and perhaps all, the majority choose liberal interpretations (just as intellectually lazy, but way more compassionate) and do not choose to demonize all others. It is akin to the Catholic who follows most of the Vatican's orders, but chooses birth control pills.... convenient, unlawful, but more reasonable.

Let's do our best to avoid creating more enemies than already exist.

BTW, I am way behind on posts and seemingly cannot even gain on this thread because it moves so fast. One reason is an awful lot of interaction with one or two distracters who are repetititious in their insults, vague in their critiques and transparent in purpose: they are here to disrupt and mock. With one, I suspect a ringer, possibly a Muslim extremist but at least a hater of Americans.... and encourage others to give strong consideration to blocking outright: Ilmarinen

Be prepared for others who arise to create discord in our quest to understand and to defeat the efforts of criminal murderers.

That is spelled eye-ell-marinen, if you wish to block.

ARS,
Holy crap
The more you learn the worse it gets
And here I thought it was just a religion.
It isn't
It's a culture of death

"The Enlightenment, the Age of Reason, is seen as the beginning of modern depravity. "

"Thinking is a form of emasculation. "

"they were ready to assassinate those who rejected their doctrines and advocated the jihad in all regions in which their dogma did not have the ascendancy. They were responsible for the Mihna or the Muslim Inquisition."

"abstain from free thought and accept the conclusions of the prophets"
"Kill him, who changes his religion"

"The unbelievers are your sworn enemies."

"hate shall reign between us until you believe in Allah only…"

these folks just aren't neighborly ...
