i don't believe most palestinians support the killing of their children
I would hope not, and I've noticed fewer children at the front lines as this thing has gone on. But the parents all say in public how happy they are, so it's hard to discern true sentiments.

i agree that they don't police themselves enough
I would say that's something of an understatement since Arafat let all the Hamas and Islamic jihad bombers out of jail last September.

that is why 50 deaths of israelis are reported on US national news and nobody mentioned the 300+ palestinians that died.
This is absolutely untrue, Skeets. Every single CNN and BBC story gives total body counts on each side.

again, they want it all back
I think you have that right. As Faisal Husseini said, "our goal is Palestine from the river to the sea".

. i suspect their emotional reactions would be the same as ours in their shoes
There I completely disagree. Jews have been in this situation in many times and places, and they have reacted very differently. I was not kidding when I said my grandfather was in this situation! Even being Arabs, if the Palestinians were all Christians instead of mostly Muslim, their reactions would have been different; imo they would have concentrated on making the best deal they could, making lives for themselves, not rearing up generations in bitterness and resentment. They would not have been such easy pawns for the Arab "brethen" to use as weapons.

(Note -- these remarks apply to the poor who stayed in the camps, not all Palestinians, especially not the educated class of the Palestinian diaspora.)

Skeets, I highly recommend the Atlantic article that was pointed out to on this thread. You seem to be operating under the working assumption that all humans react about the same to things; it's only the governments that differ.

That's just not true, and it leads to a bad misunderstanding of events.

From The Roots of Muslim Rage

"What is truly evil and unacceptable is the domination of infidels over true believers. For true believers to rule misbelievers is proper and natural, since this provides for the maintenance of the holy law, and gives the misbelievers both the opportunity and the incentive to embrace the true faith. But for misbelievers to rule over true believers is blasphemous and unnatural, since it leads to the corruption of religion and morality in society, and to the flouting or even the abrogation of God's law."
