Yet you are suggesting that we manipulate the soico-polito-economic behaviour in those countries for our benefit.

Yep... until they follow the same rules that we abide by with other similiar economies (Europe, Japan, Australia), then we have EVERY right to play by THEIR own "rules", or lack thereof. To do otherwise would be to operate under a self-imposed handicap that our competitors don't worry about.

The only other recourse is to overthrow the corrupt governments and occupy their nations until we can restructure them in our own image, as we did with Japan and Germany after WWII...

Two PROFOUND examples of "where it did work"...

But I'm not especially keen on expending American blood and treasure to undertake such a policy until forced to do so (as possibly may be the case now).

Btw, relying on the "respective governments" of other nations to take care of their own people is rather polly-annish, if you'll permit such bluntness... Most of the people currently in power in these government obtained those positions through corruption or intimidation and can hardly be expected to look out for anyone's interest but their own.

Thus, this is why the US must not just give out money indiscriminately. We must take the long road and help to develop these economies step by step, layer by layer, until they are strong enough to create the foundation for a democratic society.

Democracy just has a tough time managing to function when people are more concerned where their next meal is going to come from.

But I can sympathise with your perspective.

>Hawk - we believe in democracy and the free enterprise system. Yet you are suggesting that we manipulate the
soico-polito-economic behaviour in those countries for our benefit.

We are forgetting the main thing that we in this country love, cherish and believe in. And that is let the free markets
find their way. they may stumble from time to time yet they will find their way and emerge stronger.

While we believe in these things for ourselves we are telling the rest of the world that we need to manipulate them.
Unfortunately it hasnt worked and will never work. Furthermore the assistance that we provide, at least in terms of cia
training, finance and arms eventually comes and harms us. Examples would be Noriega, Osama Bin laden, Shah of
Iran, Saddam Hussein. And in the future it could be Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, pakistan and others.

I for one would recommend that we let the represtative governments of the other nations take care of their people and
any aid we provide, we must make sure it goes to the people and programs for which it is directed and not to line the
pockets of officials who will do what we 'desire' while they rob the funds and use those funds to rob and suppress their
people who go on to hate america for its 'help'.
