I found it to be quite humorous myself. Nothing like stating the obvious. I found it interesting that much attention was given to the concern of not inciting more enmity through such comments. I did not find anyone disputing the comments by citing some significant achievements of Islamic countries.

Another good article here:

Hi kb,

Back around #6127, we got into a discussion of Qui v. Cui Bono? You might recall. At any rate, I just happened upon an interesting site:
geocities.com
#12 there seems to indicate that my original, "qui bono", as meaning "who benefits", may be more applicable to my usage than the suggested "cui bono". FWIW.

In regard to the latest from Silver-Tongue Berlusconi of the Boot, I've come up with a translation of his words that I believe is what the al Qa'eda translators heard:

"We must never forget to cram down the throat of the street Arabs of the strength of our militarized civilization; we must be dismissive of our enemies, these illiterate souk traders. All of the achievements of our so-called civilization: forward projecting imperial institutions, the love of commerce and ambiguously achieved gain - which represents our greatest asset - the liberty of the individuals like me who can game the system and the vacuity of people who don't understand my duplicity. These, certainly, are not the inheritance of other civilizations such as Islamic civilization."

Good Point, KB

"Many Arabs and Muslims
feel they had 10 centuries of great cultural achievement that ended
with European colonialism," says John Esposito, director of the
Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown
University.

What are these great cultural achievements? We know that ancient cultures in the mid-east were responsible for creating the building blocks of civilization. The first written languages, the first cities, etc.. However once Islam became the predominant religion, the Mid-east peoples have ceased to lead and have gradually fallen behind the European states in practically any milestone of civilization or technological advancement.
Sounds to be like the people of the mid-east were sold a bill of goods by self-serving Islamic "leaders". I can sum up the entire culture: Islamic leaders rise to the top by hook or crook. Islamic leaders try to keep populace in line using extremist religion and banning all foreign influences. When that doesn't work, they resort to terror (torture, murder, etc.). What do these leaders get? Power and women. Lots of women.

Top Ten List - Islamic Contributions to Civilization

1) The concept of "Zero"
2) Pajama's
3) Falafal
4) ???? - anyone??
