If I am not mistaken, the loggers have been able to neutralize much of the danger with metal detectors. The hardware in the trees is an example, though, of enviro-whacko terrorism that will enhance as they see their political support dissipate. At the moment, they need to be watched carefully. If not, they will go the route of the Weatherman, and people will be killed making the world safe from them. Let's hope the domestic diligence covers all possibilities, not just the few of Sept. 11...

I worked stacking lumber at a sawmill near Eagles Nest NM as a teenager. It probably wasn't as high tech as you've seen, but the scenery was great. Not sure what happened to it, but the mill is no longer there.

I've never been inside a bandsaw mill but I could see in the door when I picked up wood. They sold 16' long bundles of scrap that were 4' across for $10. Leave the bands on and slice off what lengths you wanted. Same as split wood for $10 per cord.

I sold some softwood timber to a pallet maker. One of the loggers helpers only had one arm. The other had been sliced off when a band broke. Said there was no time to move.
