To paraphrase Winston Churchill, nations have interests, not friends.

Your damn right on that one -g-

"But citizens of nations have friends as interests, never mind family as well in other countries."

(a quotation from Pearly_Button)

Before I visited the Ukraine, the Pope went in first. I am happy our "general" leads in the front. -g-

Watch out, my Mother is a Catholic with lots of sons and daughters. The Pope has his plan for world domination too ...OBL watch out...LOL

"We have no eternal allies and we have no perpetual enemies. Our interests are eternal and perpetual, and those interests it is our duty to follow. " xrefer.com

That's credited to one Lord Palmerston, whoever he might be. I would certainly hope that in lining up support from the various other 'stans in the neighborhood of Afghanistan, we aren't looking for eternal allies. They all give me the willies.
