Hi Greg:

Opinions are not worthy of respect as such, only those that are well-reasoned and evidenced. Even these can turn out to be wrong. But progress is impossible without honest criticism.

I'm no Biblical scholar. I know that there are, contained in the New Testament at least, prohibitions against homosexuality. But the Bible contains contradictions. I know that the various Gospels, for example, are not entirely consistent in their accounts of the life of Christ.

I look at The Bible as having been written by people, doing their best to understand God. In so doing, it's no wonder that there could be, in fact perhaps there must be, confusion, misunderstanding. I think, on the issue of homosexuality, there has been a misunderstanding of what God had in mind.

Greg,

I believe that you are upset with my calling you an extremist. I think you are a Christian fundamentalist whose views are extreme, so much so that, as a fellow Christian I've stated publicly that your Christianity is nothing like mine.

Poet is often extemely condemning of me and mine

I have never stated that your brand of Christianity is wrong, though you have stated that, based on what you know of my beliefs, I am not a Christian at all. Since that point I have been unwilling to discuss the finer points of my religious beliefs with you.

On what basis does she believe that Homosexual behavior is not sinful? It doesn't come from the bible, that much I'm sure of.

That is precisely where it comes from. People interpret the Bible differently. I am not going to get into a Bible interpretation pissing match with you. In my view, the Bible is a source of guidance and confirmation, not a club to be used to hit folks over the head.

I will try to be more respectful, perhaps she will follow my example.

Here's a suggestion: If you have a question for me, approach me directly. Addressing my husband in this way is cheesy.
