If the US had gone ahead and ridded the world of Saddam the word of the US would be mud and there is no reason to believe that binnie and his boys would not have developed anyway. Today the US could not have formed the current coalition as there would be no trust of what the word of the US is. This is the current position of those in the current administration.

mr. bill was not someone who gave his word and it meant anything. President Bush's word is a promise of an honorable man. you can whine and moan and groan but in the middle east a man's word means something. A rapist's word is reviled.

<< You don't think the hawks in government are saying we should have finished the bastard off when we had the chance. >>

No, what they are saying is more like:

'If we had any idea that Clinton would back off and let Iraq rebuild its military, we would have finished them off when we had the chance'.

The real truth of the matter is that the world would not have supported further action by our military once we got Iraq out of Kuwait. George Sr. no doubt wanted to take out Saddam, but no doubt the Dems at the time were influencing him in the other direction.

IMO,
Dave

Do you think the current administration doesn't realize that the U.S. should have finished off Saddam when the going was good? No doubt, you believe Bush Jr. says to himself it was a proper and wise move on his father's part to leave Saddam in power.
"You're either badly misinformed or a liar." Please explain how the Gulf War was a success if the U.S. is going back to fight against an Iraqi military that is more powerful than it was at the end of the Gulf War. You don't think the hawks in government are saying we should have finished the bastard off when we had the chance. Duh.

Name one democrat who was advocating continuing the Gulf War after Kuwait was liberated. All i can remember is Dick Gephardt railing against any further military action on the House floor.
