A house in the country
Get one far enough out that it is not about to become part of some suburb.
Never buy on a north facing slope.
If there is no power close by forget it.
Or buy property with a slope and year round stream.
Get a perk test done.
Rent in the area for a year before thinking of buying.
Have a designer or architect pollish off your ideas .
If the property has a beautiful meadow do not build in the middle of it or run a driveway across it. Dumb city folk do this and you aint one. Right ?
Put a slope on the roof ! 4 in 1 pitches look ugly even in California. 6 in 12 or 8 in 12 is where the big action is.
Vinal siding...........was made for trailers. trailer folks applied it to their houses as they bought up and turned their houses into wantabe trailers.
Do not cut down ever friggin tree for the view. The trees are the view or part of it.
Do not build the house yourself. Get it built to lockup and then take a look at what you can do. The true cost starts from here in and if you have time its the best place to leave your mark.
Build a detached garage first ! You can build stuff for the interior and store all those high end doors in a dry place.
Plant the fruit trees the first year you buy the property.

not that I want to be bossy .
its yours right ?
If you want to live in a 48ford school bus jacked up on blocks with a chimney poked through the roof . Go for it.

Hugs and kisses

'Rambo' was written by a canadian professor of english.
- file under Stuff The Radio Told Me.
- or Cultural Exports, lol

There was an excellent NZ Cabernet/Merlot somebody brought here the other day, can't find the bottle and can't remember the name, but it was great ... the BC wines of quality sell fairly easily, there may not be enough of them yet to export very far ... plus each new province you sell to costs more in admin fees to the LCBs ... i drink reds only, very much prefer beer to white wine, and the great majority of BC wine is white ... however there is some red around, five years ago we got a case of pinot noir from a guy named Zanatta [?] on the island, excellent, richer than you would expect from the coast .... the industry is still expanding here, getting better ... lots of plonk around some years too, if you know who to ask, wine that didn't quite turn out but is more than drinkable

I could never live in a city, always knew that, never tried ... spent time in them, often extended time, and enjoyed it mostly, but Home is always some place off in the boonies ..... yes, build a barn, and before the house like ralfph says, otherwise everything is a struggle ... well, building a house is always a struggle, more so if you're married at the time, but it can be lessened with good planning ... and experience - they say you have to build three before you get it right -g-

My X-Cal sold off today, i got a few with the change in the cowboy account, tapped out now ... one of these days Placer is going to want the Mill Creek property, they're putting together a land package there ... at that point xcl will have options as to what to do next, and i wonder if Snowbird makes the shortlist for them with this new regime in BC ... market cap of ~3.5mUS today, ridiculous, this one will be around a long time, and well placed for the gold bull with Sleeper .... not holding my breath though, same as with National Gold ... eventually i'll end up with matching positions in these two, got to add ngt to do that

[edit] - xcl annual reports arriving in mail, heard just now

Hi Kastel,

Sounds like Heaven on earth... I have no illusions about the quiet of the country. I just want more space and privacy. A nice little shop for building stuff (well maybe not too little, more like a small barn :o), be able to listen to Bob, Bruce, Mick, Eric, Hank, Buck (and many, many others) a bit too loudly, a wood lot , a real pond or two, room for a couple of dogs, maybe a horse and I really want a place to build a house that I like. There's more ...

LUV it! Can I visit???

Regards,
Peter
