If J2P2 and the Catholic Church wish to preach the evils of contraception, or counsel others to eschew contraception, they have every right to do so, as long as they accept that those to whom they preach have the right to reject their advice. If they use their influence with governments and private organizations to deprive individuals of that choice, that is another matter altogether. If the Church is using its influence to prevent refugee rape victims, many of whom are not even Catholic, from obtaining the services they need to avoid bearing the children of their rapists, I would say that E has every right to be concerned. I would suspect that any person with the slightest shred of decency has an obligation to be concerned. I would stop short of using the word "evil" - it is not a word I often use - but I would have no hesitation in saying that I personally find such policies disgusting and contemptible. A lot of Americans have a hard time understanding the kind of dirty work the Catholic Church, which in your country wears a rather mild face, gets up to when it has free rein to operate as it chooses. In the Philippines, for example, the Church preaches against contraception, as one would expect. The vast majority of Catholic Filipinos, measured by numerous polls and by actual practice, rejects this teaching, as one would also expect, the teaching being pretty stupid. The Church, unable to convince its flock, has consistently tried to coerce its flock by forcing the government to ban artificial contraceptives. Political figures that support access to contraceptives are constantly harassed in Church-influenced newspapers; every move they make is scrutinized, and any whiff of scandal is trumpeted from the pulpit. Those who toe the church line get a free pass, though many of them have much more dirt attached. They do other things as well, including broadcasting wild misinformation claiming terrible side effects for contraceptive devices; no need to go into detail. American Catholics should be aware of these things when they give money. I expect that similar activities go on in many other places, including refugee camps and anywhere else where the Church or Church-run organizations have the power to try and impose their beliefs on others.
