>>Muslims "will always be separate"<<

That's not so bad, is it? Orthodox Jews will always be separate. Amish farmers will always be separate. Diversity and multiculturalism are not bad words. We aren't the Borg - we don't need to assimilate everyone into a homogenous mass in order to be a great nation.

My Cajun grandfather got in trouble in school when he spoke Cajun instead of English. The Cajun culture came close to being wiped out, but now it's cool to be Cajun.

My Chippewa great-grandmother was sent to the Carlisle Indian School in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, to learn how to be white. When the US government gave her tribe land in the 1920's, my great-grandfather would not let her put in a claim because he did not want anyone to know he was married to an Indian. But now it's cool to be Indian.

One of our new cultural heros is Mike Moran, the New York firefighter from Rockaway, who, at the Madison Square Garden benefit for New York's victims of 911 told bin Laden to "kiss my royal Irish ass." Irish people don't assimilate fully, either, it seems.

Hi Joseph. This article......" Americanization Now
Getting serious about assimilation."....

For years and years I have bitched about this very thing to anyone who would listen and for the most part would be considered a racist or intolerant of others. For years and years I have been forced to assimilate to other cultures and religions and was told by our Gov's that this country was a melting pot of different cultures. My view has always been that our countries were becoming a boiling pot and would some day boil over.....like now.

Years ago people of different cultures who came to our countries were grateful for the chance to live in a free country and realized it was a privilege...... to-day people who come to our countries believe it is their right to come here and flaunt their differences knowing that our laws of freedom will protect them.
In our efforts to offer the freedoms of our countries to all of the worlds peoples we have failed to protect our own culture. And I no longer have any idea what my culture is.
I know that our countries are made up of many different cultures and this is good and is as it should be but how can a country survive when so many different cultures, some who have hated each other for centuries come here and are not encouraged to assimilate to the way of life in their new country instead they are encouraged to maintain the customs of whatever country they came from. While growing up in my country I can remember the Irish, German, Italian,
etc all kept their cultural differences but were citizens of and loyal to their chosen country first. And we all kind of looked the same and sort of acted the same but we were all different...........To-day terrorist are using our rights of freedom to kill us.
I have noticed that one of the " NOT POLITICAL CORRECT " TV shows is making a come back.....Archie Bunker....wonder why now??
