Hi Bob,

Curious as to how long you believe SI will survive under current conditions? You seem to have seen the eye of the storm firsthand so to speak. Also, do you know of any alternatives to SI which offer similar high quality thinkers/posters of SI?

TIA

Brian

That's a very valuable read, Bob. Thanks for taking the time to write it down.

I hope whoever is left running SI these days looks at it as well.

I've stashed a bit of money that was earmarked as my personal financial participation in the deal I was trying to sell to VC's, but it's looking for a good use now. Perhaps a good way to deploy it would be to buy a machine, connection, and rackspace, and play around and see what I come up with.

A well thought out business plan and time-line placed on paper in advance before any business funds have been dispersed is the first thing that creates a path to any successful business venture. 7 P's to remember; Piss Poor Planning Promotes Piss Poor Performance.

Do it with the attitude that your site build is a hobby rather than a start-up business and perhaps you will be successful.

Makes a lot of sense.

Bob,
What are the chances of a brokerage/trading shop acquiring SI, and either charging a monthly fee, or keeping it free but requiring posters to have some minimum account with them (say, $25,000) to keep the rabble out? Or some combination of the two (monthly fee waived for those with the account). Would something like that work? If INSP is actually just going to shut it down, surely someone would be interested in buying it for potential marketing ploys. Or perhaps that is just dreaming. I don't even know how many people actually post or lurk here.

Sam

EDIT: Well, I read further on, and see your answer. That's pretty depressing. I'll leave the question up anyway.
