Even with the Dells and Compaqs getting volume price discounts on everything?

I don't have sufficient data to make a solid guesstimate, but the ratio is clearly much closer to 1:1 than the ~ 3:1 overall market share.

Don't exaggerate AMD's share (on the latter).

Even if you didn't pay for the software (which, BTW, is illegal, hint hint winky winky), I doubt you can save that much money building the PC yourself.

The only reason why I still do it is the flexibility, like you describe.
