Elmer, Re: "According to Chen, AMD, of Sunnyvale, Calif.,may be experiencing difficulty in stabilizing its 0.13 micron processor technology, which could delay the production of its Athlon processors using the technology. This, in turn, could hurt gross margins and market share as well as weaken AMD's competitive position with regard to both costs and performance, the analyst said."

The AMDroids really liked Chen's report about Intel lowering their manufacturing orders over the past couple months. I wonder if he's such a good analyst, if they like this report, too. <G>

If they're trying to push gate CD's below 65nm, I can guarantee that they're going to have trouble...

Was there any mention of whether or not this was the bulk or SOI process??? I'd presume bulk, but I could be wrong.

Elmer, maybe GV or Bob Kim?

Chen maintained his longterm buy rating on shares of AMD, but recommended investors trim their positions.

Real dumb question, but does this mean sell now and buy back later?

Re: AMD, of Sunnyvale, Calif.,may be experiencing difficulty

How ironic that it is actually Intel that is currently suffering a yield problem and is unable to fulfill previously accepted orders.

Well, that's what happened to AMD a few years ago with the K6: They accepted orders, ran the wafers, then failed to fulfill some orders when a higher than expected percentage of the wafers turned out bad.

It happens to even the best of semi manufacturers, Intel need not be ashamed.

Focus of the Day
An Intel spokeswoman, Evia Shum, said the
company may not fulfill orders for certain models of Pentium 4 processors.

There is no indication that the total number of PCs sold has been greater than expected, (the opposite, actually) and Intel pricing does not indicate any surplus of PIIIs -which would be expected if there were an unexpected transfer of demand from PIII to P4.
