I'm expecting a new wave of layoffs starting in January.
I know a number of high tech companies that sent employees to unpaid vacations and mandated taking unused earned vacations. They all hope that things will get better soon.

These fools who talk about deflation obviously don't do the food shopping for their families. After 911 price increases in the supermarket were on hold, but that's over. The fun jump though comes in January.

Deflation can be attributed to many things the cost of the yen verus the dollar. The distinction between reduction of internal cost and reduction of external cost in relation to dollar value.

It is very hard to estimate what will occur in the food industry we do know that the insurance end of the economy will have increased costs that will be factored into premiums. We also know that the food industry is in better shape than they have ever been due to tech and the ability to get a much closer look as to who is buying what. Southern Calif Ralphs my area is advertising sirloin first page and ham Northern Calif has booze first page and lamb. Southern California has less job loss due to tech. The adds are geared to the add dollar value conscious consumer in the areas shopping WFMI is geared to total organic that is all they had to do and all consumers have to do is make sure they don't assume all is organic.

I am sure you are right when i think about it. People can cut out restaurants junk food and many items they don't need to live but they can't cut out food but only refine the product purchased to fit the budget.
