If we can get the right people, fine. But we cannot occupy the world in order to ensure good political behavior.....

Our mistakes in the past had to do with thinking our responsibility ends with honoring war heroes.

Well, Jewel, just what is our responsibility? We have been bashed many times for meddling in the domestic affairs of other countries. It seems to be a case of damned if you do, damned if you don't. I see a barren landscape in Afghanistan for finding any kind of remotely viable democratic government. Would the world applaud us if we make Afghanistan a colonial outpost of ours and manage its affairs for the foreseeable future? And just how many other countries, on how many other continents, need the same help? Is this truly America's responsibility? I am not baiting you here, but rather posing these questions honestly.
