Women may not have been "allowed" to wear pants, but they were never required to wear hoop skirts, corsets etc etc etc. They chose to do so, as a fashion statement. It's the same as high heels, women are not required to wear them, they generally wear them because it makes their legs look better, or makes them taller.

Fashion statements can be optional or compulsory. Corsets were compulsory for women in the 19th century; if they didn't wear them, they weren't dressed. When I walk downtown I wear shoes, pants, and a sweater instead of a nightgown, bathrobe and slippers, even though I find the bathrobe more comfortable. This may be a fashion statement, but it's not optional.

>>Feminists take things to the extremes, every little thing is an affront, a challenge to their being.<<

I hope not. I am a feminist, and I think I do a pretty good job of rolling with the punches.

Agreed that I don't have to wear a bra, or panty hose, or makeup - it's just expected. Just as a tie is expected of men.

Now, let's hypothesize that I met a lawyer wearing, say, khaki pants and a golf shirt - would I think he was somehow inadequate? Actually, I'd look into his eyes and listen to his voice and judge him based on what he said and how he said it. I almost never notice what people are wearing unless it's very unusual.

Bibi Netanyahu was on, I believe it was Fox, this evening. I couldn't tell you whether he was wearing a tie - I know it wasn't a suit - not what kind of shirt - although if it had been slit to the navel and he had been wearing gold chains I would have noticed, I'll grant you.

Feminists take things to the extremes, every little thing is an affront, a challenge to their being.

I take it some women in your life have given you a hard time about the views you displayed in this quote.
