As for accounting practices, the only reason people are getting sick of write-offs is because we are in a recession. Fortunatley, the government has given companies like AOL the green light to write off as much good will as they want in a single quarter. Many companies have compressed 10 years of amortization into a single write-off.

IMO, not true. This proforma sheet has bee abused to the point of a heroin junkie trying to justify why he continues to use. Proforma "one time write offs" have eslclated to the point where we see them every quarter. Granted, proforma, used responsibly is an okay practice. Just when you see one time charges being renewed every wuarter, even the believers begin to doubt.

No one has ever made money shorting the market coming out of a recession.

One of us is right, the other is wrong. I don;'t believe we are coming out of a recession.

As demand for these improved products encourages 24/7 consumption of bandwidth, maybe even the capital spending companies will return to health.

Maybe. That is a risky gamble. Of course those that do the gambling and are right reap the larger rewards. and conversely if they are wrong stand the biggest chance of losing more.

P.S> I hoep everyone realizes that by my posting spree tonight I'm almost assuring a stellar day(reversal) in the comp(g)
Good luck!

With over 14 million new CDMA subs in the 4th quarter alone, I think the analysts forgot that CDMA has grown beyond the US. Growth in South America, Asia, and Europe picked up quite a bit in the 4th quarter. Korea 1X shipments must have gone through the roof.

I hate to be the one telling you this....but the CDG's numbers are complete and utter BS. They have consistently miscounted (both over and under) the number of subs each and every quarter that I have checked. This quarter is no different.

The sub numbers for the fourth quarter are available from Korea, Japan, and most of the US and Latin American operators (look at BLS's numbers). They universally underperformed expectations.

Once the CDG gives their regional breakdown, I'll try and show where they are off...
