These "off-the-wall scenarios" as you call them are like getting together with a group of your hunting buddies and writing up plans for assassinating your neighbor, blaming someone else, and getting away with it, for some financial gain.

Sounds like a certain traitor who said "off-the-shelf self-funding operation", to bypass civilian control of military adventures.

Your business, I guess.
You'd have some explaining to do, however, especially if your neighbors start turning up shot, and your documents are discovered.
You'd be a murder suspect. Right?

In any event, that's not what I pay my public servants to do, buddy.

It doesn't help to try to diffuse the blame for murderous amorality into "think tanks" of the military, etc. The intent here is IT DOES NOT MATTER, as you reiterate. Killing innocent Americans by the military, in the furtherance of military policy, even in peacetime, is worthy of study, according to you.

That tells me we'd better investigate what the hell is really going on in these "think tanks" - what extent will they go to to pimp for the military? Are there no limits? We've gone from Machiavelli to Mein Kampf now?

Do you believe other Americans go along with that?

re:Weekly Standard - Kristol and Wolfowitz have wanted this for a long time."

sfgate.com

"Who's writing this script? Who hijacked our war?

The answer: a coterie of "neo-conservative" thinkers led by Weekly Standard publisher William Kristol and deputy defense secretary Paul Wolfowitz.

Out of the ashes of Sept. 11, they and their rightist associates have found what they've long wanted: an American government heading toward war in the Middle East. They have diverted the hunt for bin Laden much as the Crusades of a millennium ago were diverted from saving the Holy Land to idiotic conquests of Belgrade, Constantinople and any number of targets along the way.
