AB - A very good question. The US is the main market for broadband mobile. he Europeans don't really need it anything like the US does.

Most SPs have been concentrating on voice and increasing subs and cleaer marketing. My guess is that there many ewmpolyees of PCS and VZ that have no idea what 1X or its successor will do.

Finally the answer is simple intertia of big companies.

My only worry is that nothing goes wrong to delay PCS for the June launch or VZ in its expansion.

Best,

L

Andy: Because they aren't ready. They don't have phones and 3G1X is still around the corner. If Sprint PCS decides to avoid BREW handsets, they will lose my support and the support from alot of other people that think they are getting the best technology from Qualcomm. I only need a decent excuse to switch from PCS to VZ since they have taken the upper hand with BREW enabled 3G solutions. I will start my weekly trip to the wireless stores - VZ just completed a complete renovation for their local store. I hope they have some Sharp 3G BREW phones.

<<PCS and VZ have done almost nothing to support their 3G1X platforms.>>

<<That sentence begs the question, "Why haven't they?". >>

Because they, like everyone else in telecom, are facing capital constraints...the bottom line for qcom, is that their customers are in a tough environment. IMO, it is a big red herring to continue the argument about technical superiority until capital flows return to this part of the market.

Sorry for the delay in taking my shot at answering, but was watching my friend Joe Pack win a Silver in Arials today (of course, with an Olympic medal he has many new friends)

>>PCS and VZ have done almost nothing to support their 3G1X platforms.
That sentence begs the question, "Why haven't they?".<<

The answer was actually asked just before this question was posted.

from Mark Fleming,
'Thanks. Any idea of when a phone with both GPS One and 1X will come to Verizon?'

The truth is that a phone with the features that will set the market on fire are just not here yet. And without the phones, it is probably correct for Verizon and Sprint to not hype very heavily yet. I admit to not having the 5xxx series memorized, but the 1x version of the 3300 is the chipset that will change wireless in the ways we have been looking toward for years. It should be coming this summer to nearly coincide with the Sprint nationwide launch.
