If you think the home improvement guys will be the first to fall keep your eye on the homebuilders. I'm in the development business here in Tucson, Arizona, and I know a lot of big developers buy their materials from Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. Once homebuilding starts rolling over, may be a good time to start shorting those home improvement guys.

If you are a vendor for Home Depot or Lowes and they are opening a new store, you're expected to provide all or substantially all of the opening stock at no charge

Pretty much the way a VP at Red Devil Paint explained it to me. I guess it's not much of a secret to the analysts on the street.

PS futures gaining on to no gain by the skin of their teeth right now.
